Region 9 Trustee's Report to Region of AFTCA Meeting on June 16, 2007
in Chicago ( a summary)
Secretary Hunt's report: 2006 Minutes approved; 2006 number of clubs
(444) remained about same; this year to date number above the usual;
data base updated; web page progressing with monthly updates by
secretary; Twentieth Century Fund and Print Programs showed nice gains;
all regional championships to be recognized must receive sanctions from
the secretary (forms to be sent to and returned by Regional secretaries)
before trials run.
Trustee John Milton on audit and financial report: the audit firm felt AFTCA
operation handled well; question: how much of total money (about
$500.000.) is Twentieth Century Fund versus operating funds? Milton said
money one entity under current tax structure; he will report how current
funds are distributed.
Trustee Dale Bush on Print Program-present painting should be
completed in late fall and ready for Christmas delivery; Dr. Lurus's painting
to be planned and completed for following year and will feature chukar
hunting in the West
Trustee Jim Crouse's report on Bass Pro Shops' clinics: for this past year
praised; this season's list of clinics is available but not completed yet since
waiting for a list of stores Bass Pro might desire clinics to be held in.
Volunteers to give clinics sought-some came forth.
Trustee Dale Bush reporting on sponsorship contracts: Pro Bass Shops
another 3 years, Purina appears firmly committed in relationship, Bruce
Fox to continue his support in discounting plaques, Tri Tronics contract
good until 2008; Wildlife Materials on board to continue support in products
and money. Total about $130,000. 00 a year.
Trustee Tom Honecker explained the new Purina Amateur All Age Dog of
Year Award and how it had been approved.
Trustee Frank Lanasa compiled a detailed listing of our insurance policies
and info for the files. He hopes market place might be more receptive to a
national liability policy being pursued. Trustee Herb Anderson on the
committee wanted landowners to be covered against liability. More work
will be done and reported next year.
New Business of concern: Region 4 championship sanctioning of trialer:
Donnie Mullins. After considerable discussion of what supposedly
happened during the running with letters and phone conversations from
two trialers involved, a judge, Region 4 President, two Region 4 Trustees,
and President Shears as evidence, the trustees considered several actions
and finally agreed, based on a motion by Trustee Mike Peretto, to suspend
Mullins for a period of six (6) months July 1 until December 31, for
violations of two running rules.
Pat Lamantia, Purina representative, up dated info on company matters
and discussed a payout program which might benefit 20 th Cent Fund. He
invited AFTCA Board of Trustees to hold its 2008 meeting in conjunction
with Purina Award Program at Olive Branch, Mississippi, on May 31, 2008.
Trustee Bob Baylis proposed a rule change in selecting trustees from
regions but its motion was disapproved.
Region 18 in Hawaii has been discontinued because of lack of support
there. Trustee Duane Cobeen, long-time trustee there, requested this in a
letter explaining their situation.
A motion was given, discussed, and passed to remove qualifications for
running derbies in the National Amateur Chicken Championship and the
National Amateur Pheasant Championship. Both championships were
short of entries and hurting.
Trustee Hunter Wilcox speaking for the 20th Cent Fund about Purina weight
circle program encourages trustees to support Purina and give some weight
circles to the fund. Dr. Lurus had submitted a proposal studied by Wilcox's
committee, but the committee needed more time to study the details before
acting on the proposal. $25,000 was approved by the financial committee to
be given to the 19 proposals made by field trial clubs. Of interest to Region 9
is that the Oregon Shooting Dog Club received $2,000. The Big Sky Field
Trial Club received $1000.00.
One last business matter involved a request by Trustee Rick Stallings to
create and send a questionnaire to all AFTCA clubs giving their input on
whether or not to allow open barrel 410 gauge shotguns, using safety
blank ammo or to allow a solid barrel blank pistol at AFTCA sanctioned
trials. After considerable discussion, approval was given for him and
Preston Trimble (Trustee and 2nd Vice-President) to create such a
questionnaire and send it out and have clubs return it to Secretary Hunt for
tabulation. Then the Trustees will act on the results of the survey.
In the open meeting at 4 p.m., retiring trustees were commended, new
trustees were voted in, President Shears was commended for all his
service over the years and presented a President's Plaque, Linda Hunt
was given a 5% raise, Mike Peretto will be President, John Milton, 1 st vp;
Preston Trimble, 2nd VP, and Jim Crouse, 3rd VP, Linda Hunt,
Secretary/Treasurer. A movement is under way to replace-Linda Hunt (by
her request) after the 2010 annual meeting.
